A cultural and religious monument of the highest category in the Republic of Croatia. A place you shouldn't miss while in Dubrovnik.

Dominican monastery

Monastery avoids all forms of luxury. It has to be simple, functional and dignified, for that is one of the the ways to perfection. These were the criteria upon which the monastery in Dubrovnik was built.

The Museum of the monastery is a rich treasury of history and art: Tiziano Vecelli, Nikola Božidarević, Hans Memling, Lorenzo di Credi...

Dominikanski samostan

Today’s exhibition in the museum dates from 1986. It contains numerous works of art from all periods: Pre-Romanesque, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Modern.

Cloister is a square garden with arcades used by the friars for quiet walks and prayer. It is rare to come across such a gallery of sculptures on the Croatian coast.

Dominikanski samostan

The cloister was built by various masters at different times. It is one of the most notable pieces of 15th century architecture on the east Adriatic coast. Also the first breakthrough of the Florentine Renaissance into Dubrovnik's sacred architecture.

The St. Dominic church, with one of the biggest painted crucifixes in Europe, is one of the biggest sacral buildings on the eastern Adriatic coast. Its tower-bell dominates the whole city.

Dominican monastery

Below the high Gothic triumphal arch, there is a large painting of the Crucifix. It was made by Paolo
Veneziano, who was the most eminent Venetian painter of the 14th century.
